DINOSOC - YEAR ONE
Well, the academic year is over. Despite all the trials and tribulations of being a new society: DINOSOC STANDS.
We've had a good year with many field expeditions to locations such as Aust, Lavernock and Penarth. Our members have trawled away enough fossils for a museum collection and to break their backs - special mention to Robin Mooney - for carrying so many massive rocks up Park Street: Well Done.
We haven't had as many out-and-out socials, but DINOVEMBER was a roaring success and we had great times in th Joint Sciences Bar Crawl and Ball. Additionally, we've had so many informal pub socials/general meetings, that DINOSOC now feels like a true palaeontological family, ( I wonder how we'll be classified...).
We've managed to get at least three members of the Palaeobiology research group to buy DINOSOC t-shirts and we even managed to make a profit on the t-shirts, despite our rock-bottom prices!
We've learnt a few lessons as well:
Trying to hire a minivan is much harder (& more expensive) than we thought.
You can take a chance with not wearing goggles but we wouldn't recommend it. (SERIOUSLY - we take NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR YOU not wearing goggles on our expeditions.)
A few more special mentions:
William Williams is quite a good sport - taking all the teasing he's endured. William, Well Done! You've passed the test and you have won an evening with President Charles (-Non-transferable - only with President Charles.)
James O'shea is the only challenger to Steven Zhang in the "Palaeo Game" - See it as the honour it is James - just watch out for Steve - he will now try to eliminate you. Good luck with surviving, we wish you all the best!
Gary Coleman is not a vegetarian despite his assertions to the contrary, plus he regularly succumbs to the temptations of meat - his words. We don't judge you Gary, we just accept you.
Finally, Ben Clarke - we hope to see you again one day -if you truly want that committee position, then you have to take your first step into a larger world....of DINOSOC.
That's all folks - See you next year!
